I started showing Airedales in 1987 with a young bitch "RANGAIRE REHEARSAL" (Penny) who was purchased from Mrs Jane Harvey ( Rangeaire Kennel) in Victoria.

I showed Penny making her up to an Australian Champion. She was a Best in Group winner, as well as gaining several in-Group awards.

I am a small breeder and produce a litter once every two years. From a relatively short time in Airedales, I have bred several dogs that have gone on to be Champions and are now producing Champions in the show ring.

I have also bred dogs that have done well in the Obedience ring, Tracking Field, and Agility too; the best of these being Australia's first and only Airedale to become "Australian Obedience Champion" - '' BAJAN LIVE AND LET DIE ".

The following dogs, I have breed and made up to Champions: Bajan Voodoo Oscar, Bajan Poetic Justice, Bajan Al Capone, Bajan Regal Elegance, Bajan Embers and Bajan Miss Mabel. All the dogs have been the top winning Airedales in Queensland in their respective years.

Last but not least, there are dogs bred who have not been shown who are considered as champions at home by their owners and their families. The owners love them and they love them back.

I have been involved with Airedales since 1976….My first Airedale was purchased from a breeder in N.S.W. The name of this bitch was Foxfern Ariel. Her first show was 15th August 1976 under breed specialist Mrs. J. Harvey. At this show, with a complete novice on the end of the lead she won Baby Puppy Bitch.

In due course she became the foundation bitch for Foxwood Kennels. Since then we have combined, English and American lines to produce our present breeding lines.

I have bred numerous dogs which have attained the title of Australian Champion, some also going on to great things in the obedience ring. Our aim is to breed for quality not quantity and we pride ourselves on the temperament of our dogs. The Airedale should be a great family dog with the ability to protect the family if necessary.

I have been involved in Showing and Breeding Airedale Terriers for over twenty years, firstly in New Zealand and more recently here in Brisbane. My name is Glenys Sloper and have been involved with All Breeds clubs in New Zealand as a committee member for several years.

My foundation bitch was purchased from Gardinaire Kennels of Christchurch and was N.Z. Ch. Megenta of Gardinaire. Geena was shown from June 1981 to February 1983. She gained her championship status on 21st November 1981 and had awards of Best in Group, Junior in Group, 2 off Puppy in Group, 21 C.C.'s and was Best of Breed 18 times. She was Best opposite Sex in 1981 to Aust. & N.Z. Ch. Old Iron Infra Red at the N.Z. Airedale Terrier Club of N.Z.. She was mated to The above dog and this gave us Aust & N.Z. Ch. Southdale Sassy Lyne.

Sassy made her presence felt in Queensland when we exported her to Foxwood Kennels making her own little bit of N.Z. history by being the first N.Z. Bred bitch to become a Dual country Champion in the breed. She was well named as she had that elusive presence in the show ring. She lived at Foxwood until 1993 and during that time produced for Foxwood and Southdale. She was a quality bitch of her time

Meanwhile in New Zealand I continued to breed with Geena and Ch. Tarahanga Touché. Both were mated to Aust & N.Z. Ch. Loudwell Fife and Drum, Touché was also put to Ch. Old Iron Infra Red. Amongst these litters we produced some nice bitches including Southdale Star for Shor. This bitch had wins of Baby In Group and Show, Puppy in Group 7 Show, Junior in Group and Show.

We carried on with another Sassy daughter, Foxwood Mi Sassafras who was imported from Australia in 1988. She only had one litter in 1993 and this was when I moved to settle in Australia. and so began the transpacific Southdale Kennels.

My foundation bitch was Southdale Shezzasass (imp. N.Z.). Her sire was an unknown dog Inkley Moor Ultamo. His dam was Tarahanga Upmarket, the sire being Loudwell Fife and Drum. His dam had only one litter but was an In Show winner at the Canterbury (N.Z.) combined Terrier Club Show under the UK Judge, Mr. Tom Horner. Southdale Shezzasass produced CH. Southdale Black Magic, a royal and In Group Award winner and Ch. Southdale Regret Not who was also an in Group Award winner.

Shezzasass was then mated to Ch. Strongfort Show Otto Show producing Ch. Southdale Rushn Regrets- an in Group award winner as well as dog CC and Best opposite Sex in show at the N.S.W. Airedale Terrier Club of N.S.W. under renowned Breed specialist Judy Averis. Ch. Southdale Rushn Regrets (Fitzy) has now sired two litters.

We again sent a Black Magic daughter, Fyreoayre Black Sass to Ch. Strongfort Show Otto Show which gave us Ch. Southdale Fig Jam who is a Reserve Best in Show winner and Best in Group and numerous class in group winner.

With all the other Southdale dogs and Bitches that I have not mentioned here, these dogs have performed well over the years and have therefore "done me proud!". I am confident that, with careful planning we will continue to produce quality dogs. Southdale x rays all its breeding stock. Our aim is to produce Strong, Healthy, Sociable puppies.

I purchased my first Airedale in 1987 as a pet, but I decided to show him. That was an experience! He was a very hairy forward fellow and with me living in the 'bush' with no grooming experience or help, did not make it easy.

My first show Airedale was Foxwood Norty Lady 'Zabby' who became the foundation bitch for Foxgem Kennels. She had everything you would want in an Airedale and has passed these traits to her offspring.

We have produced dogs that have achieved the award of Australian and New Zealand Champion as well as the ever important Family Pet, Baby Minder, Guard Dog and Granny Sitter...all equally important.

We have combined English and American bloodlines to try and produce the Airedale that looks and acts like and Airedale should....King of the Terrier.
