Purchasing A Puppy

Purchasing a puppy from a registered breeder who x-rays for H.D. etc. is a great advantage to most puppy purchasers. If the breeder is honest with the new puppy owner and the new owners have stated that they only want a “pet” then it is in the best interest of the breed that these people be encouraged to have the puppy desexed.

No breeder can honestly say that they have a whole litter of top quality “show pups”… sure, probably everything that is bred is capable of being shown but why put a specimen in the ring that is not going to achieve high standards in competition levels. Why encourage someone to show when the dog has pricked ears or a very bad tail set etc. It will only be devastating to the puppy owners because some honest judge will at some stage tell them what the problem is and why they are not winning at in group or in show levels. Surely the aim of breeding, if people are interested is to get the best specimens of the breed in the show ring. Otherwise nothing is happier that a pet at home with its owners – desexed.

But puppy purchasers please be honest with your breeders…if you feel that you do not have the time to groom and show your airedale then tell the breeder that and you will no doubt enjoy a pup that is suitable to your requirements.
