Fellow members are invited to send short newsy items which may appear on this page at the webmasters discretion and within the space limits and club priorities. "Word" items that can be cut and pasted would be preferable as the web master is no typist. Items submitted to the club magazine may be appropriate for publication here after appearing in the Airedaler or if of immediate relevance, right away.
Keith Lovell judged Airedales and a number of other breeds at the Sombatherley International Dog Show in Hungary in July 2007. There were about a dozen Airedales of mixed quality but consistently the coats were fantastic, size was good and head and neck and fronts excellent. With some exceptions there was a noticeable problem with tails set.
After the judging and a short holiday in Hungary, Austria and Slovakia, Keith went to the UK for the celebration of the century of the Midland Counties Airedale Terrier Club. The event over two days was well attended by many of our friends from the UK. Keith thinks that only Australia and Sweden were represented with visitors. The judge was Judy Averis of Saredon Terriers and as usual she showed she knew her Airedales. There were about 80 enties and some very nice ones. Mary Swash won best in show with a lovely male. (More detail when there is more time- Lovells are shifting house). It was lovely to see Barbara Holland turn out and see her daughter exhibiting. Old friends like David Scawthorn, Michael Sargent and others helped with the celebrating but the highlight was Keith and Olive Jackson dancing the night away.
The recent visit of Marcy Zingler and Dr Suzanne Hampton will be reported here shortly. Contributions are invited.
Suzanne and Marcy have been most significant members of the Airedale Terrier Club of America for many years. Until recently Marcy held a long time position as Club Delegate on the American Kennel Club and has stewarded in the ring at Montgomery County for as long as some remember. Suzanne has served as President of the Airedale Club of America and contributed to the club and its sub sections in many ways for many years. Suzanne is secretary of The Montgomery County Kennel Club. Together they have bred and exhibited Airedales.
Marcy accepted an invitation to judge Airedales for the West Gippsland Kennel Club and very generously supported our breed. The club donated sashes. The two Americans have spent a week in Australia with Keith and Trish Lovell and these four Airedalers have enjoyed the sights and experiences Melbourne and beyond has to offer. She was very pleased with the entry of 16 Airedales (she judged a number of other breeds over two shows including 17 Am Staffs; a breed she loves. Peter Hatton was the successful exhibiter winning both dog and bitch challenges. Marcy was impressed by our Airedales despite a number of good ones being unable to attend. Peter's dog won best of breed and was a stand out showing to perfection and groomed to win. His qualities were indicative of the international competitiveness of Australian Airedales.
Keith Lovell, who organised this event for his Airedale friends wishes to thank those who participated and enjoyed the day so much. The feast and gathering at his home at days end was a great opportunity for people to chat with Marcy and Suzanne. Keith would also thank David and Diane Barclay who transported Thai and Darwinian judges for him saving two trips to Melbourne. Ken Campbell and Jan Braithwaite-Campbell also contributed to the success of the weekend in supporting the guest judge from Thailand in a most nurturing manner.

Shino Sugamoto the editor of the magazine of The Airedale Club of Japan, wife of the president of that club and co owner of Wilderness Airedales visited with the Lovells for the week prior to the week marcy and Suzanne arrived.
Shino was entertained by the club through the generous hosting by Glenys Cochrane. A special Bar B Que event by the pool started the week off well for Shino. Many club members attended making her welcome to our country and our club. Many thanks to Glenys for her hard work, catering and hospitality and a big thankyou to all those who helped with the bar b que.
Shino enjoyed a week which included All Breeds Shows at Benalla and Lang Lang as well as trips to "the penguins," Healsville, the Yarra Valley wine growers, Trafalgar Golf and many great Australian Eateries. Impossible to match the hospitality the Japanese people give Australians but a valid attempt.
Several members first met Shino and Takemi at the Year 2000 in Bingley England. Keith has judged in Japan for the Airedale Club and enjoyed the hospitality.
