Ingalee Beagles Enjoying a Drag Hunt
Welcome to the website of Ingalee Beagles, owned by Gina and Stephen Yarrow.
Ingalee's Beginnings
We are a small kennel who breed beagles for the showring or pet home.
Our involvement in beagles began in 1990 when Gina obtained her first two beagles from Barbara Watson of Kramner Kennels, in Renmark South Australia.
Gina had a keen interest in obedience and began obedience training the two litter brothers, Kramner Prince Albert CD (Albert) and Kramner Prince Charles (Charlie).
The obedience fraternity at the time did not regard beagles as trainable, and this made Gina determined to prove a point. Both Albert and Charlie were very receptive to obedience training and quickly progressed through the grades at obedience school. Gina and Albert went on to trial and at the age of two years Albert gained his Companion Dog title. In 1995 Albert won Best in Trial at the Beagle National's Inaugural obedience trial.
Through the involvement with the Beagle Club of South Australia, Gina's interest in beagles widened to include drag hunting and showing.
In 1992, Gina obtained her third beagle, Kramner Filigree (Pippa) who was to become the foundation bitch for Ingalee Beagles.
Ingalee Today
We are still a small kennel, with only a few hounds. We only breed when we are looking to keep a puppy to run on for ourselves.
We have been very fortunate with our breeding program to have attained the quality we have today through a small number of litters.
We have set ourselves high standards in relation to temperament and soundness, and will not compromise these standards, and we thoroughly research the beagles used in our breeding program.
As part of our breeding ethics we will guarantee any dog that we sell for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase for any hereditary disease. Details and conditions of this guarantee are available on request from us.
Ingalee Activities
We love our beagles and they are very much a part of our family. A few years ago we purchased a 100 acre property in the heart of the Barossa Valley with the only intention in mind to run the hounds.
We enjoy walks with the hounds at our feet on the property, exploring the craggy rocks, and winding river banks.
We have trained the hounds to walk freely with us, as a Master would walk the pack. Controlling them with our voice.
Through the winter months we regularly drag hunt our hounds and invite other beagle friends to participate. The thrill of watching 20 - 30 hounds run over the entre property, giving voice following the scent laid down, is truly amazing.
It is also interesting to note how strongly the instinct to hunt follows certain breeding lines.
In any one day these hounds can run up to 50km, with runs varying in length from 2.5kms to 8.5kms. The 40kms are usually run over a 4 hour period with short rest breaks in between each run. This certainly tests the hounds' endurance and conformation.
Our beagles are very happy and well adjusted. They are part of our family and love our young children. They live happily with other animals at home, including cats, pet pigs, goats, cattle, kelpies, horses, chickens, geese and ducks.
