Est 1992
My involvement with owning, showing and breeding beagles started rather accidentally when I lived in
Sydney during the 1980’s. My husband (Michael) and I lived in a unit and couldn't have a pet but next door to us lived a tri colour beagle who would without fail come out to greet me each night as I was coming home from work. That beagle was such a happy little dog that I resolved when I could have a pet that it would be a beagle. In 1990 we moved to
Brisbane and my resolve to own a beagle was just as strong and we purchased our first beagle puppy George (Aust Ch Kidsridge Georgie Porgie).
Neighbours who lived across the road and were involved in showing Dalmatians noticed George’s arrival and suggested showing him. I had never been to a dogshow before and wanted to find out what it was all about and went to my first show in March 1992 with George who was to become my first champion. George was followed by my foundation bitch Tina (Ch Filnor Carousel) and hence my involvement began. Since that time I have been regularly showing and breeding on a limited scale and now have a small pack of beagles (oldies and showdogs) at home including George and Tina who are now very spritely senior citizens. Looking after the oldies and ensuring that puppies and any adult beagles not kept for show are placed in caring homes with long term commitment is just as important if not more important to me than the showing aspect.
From limited breeding, I have bred 8 champions under the Brevari prefix (including a Grand Champion who is also a National Beagle Council Award of Merit recipient Aust Gr Ch & NZ Ch Brevari Margeaux owned by my good friends Neil and Colleen Hudson, Jancintine, WA), 4 All Breeds Best in Show winners (Aust Gr Ch & NZ Ch Brevari Margeaux, Ch Brevari Dangerous Liason, Ch Brevari Burnished and Brevari Vintage Crop) and 2 Specialty Best in Show winners (Aust Gr Ch & NZ Ch Brevari Margeaux and Ch Brevari Dangerous Liason). I have also exported a beagle to
Europe who has since become an international champion (International Ch Brevari Hidden Agenda). In addition to beagles I have bred and shown under my prefix I have also shown many more beagles from other prefixes to their championship titles.
Over the years I have enjoyed breeding and showing dogs in conjunction with other breeders and thank Neil & Colleen Hudson
(Jancintine), Sandra Symons (Reesdale), Alec & Jan Newton (Follyfoot, NZ) and Tony & Debbie Beattie (Delrei) for their continuing association. I also wish to thank Sue Bownds (Nangunyah) for providing me with two quality bitches Ch Nangunyah Fleur Delacour and Nangunyah Burnt Ember. Kate Dean (Talimba) who has shown beagles over the years for me (and other breeders) while also showing Dallies will now be joining forces with me to concentrate solely on breeding and showing beagles.
Of course, to finish off this brief history the last word must go to the beagles whose wonderful carefree attitude, intelligent inquisitiveness and cheerful nature is a constant source of amusement (and occasionally consternation) which we wouldn’t be without!
Happy Beagling!
