Caeruleus Bedlington Terriers

About Us

About Us

We live on 5 acres in the Southern Highlands of NSW, Australia, with seven bedlington terriers and two alpacas, as well as various Australian fauna including wombats, wallabies and lots of beautiful birds. We came from England and Ireland originally, but have been in Oz for 30 years and are now true-blue Ozzies (especially when it comes to cricket and rugby).

About our Kennel

Our first Bedlington puppy, Trooper, succumbed to a rare inherited brain disorder at the age of nine months. We were devastated when he died.
We studied a lot about the breed in Australia and decided the best way to help the breed we loved was to bring in some healthy lines from overseas. With this in mind, we visited England and investigated the options. We met with Pam and Pat from Dalip Bedlingtons in Sheffield – they love the breed and were happy to help us. We have since made links with Ken Bounden and Chris Mayers (Tolpedn and Tcheria kennels), who were also very helpful.
We aim to breed happy, healthy bedlingtons. We only breed from clear stock and it is a condition of sale of our babies that they too only be mated with clear lines. We do not want our beautiful breed to go backwards.

About Our Beddies

The matriarch of our beddie clan is Georgia (Dalip British Maid, Australian Champion). Georgia is a liver-and-tan bitch (first in Oz) and is our first UK import. She was sired by Dalip Lord of the Rings, who is the second top C.C winner of all time and is an English, International, Belgian and Dutch Champion.
Georgia is a top little dog – she has had three beautiful litters and is a fantastic mum. She is full of character and bosses all the other dogs (and humans) around but is not above rolling in the grass and chasing rabbits (successfully!).

The top dog of our pack is Squire (Tolpedn Royal Fling, Australian Champion). Squire is a blue dog and is our second UK import. He was bred by Ken Bounden (author of the definitive book on the breed “The Bedlington Terrier”). The Tolpedn kennel was established in 1938 and is considered one of the best in the bedlington world.
Squire is just delightful – he has the best temperament – friendly, loving and curious, a lovely linty coat and colour and moves beautifully. A show judge only recently commented on how rare it is to see the true mincing gait of a bedlington, which Squire has to perfection. We confess, we do spoil our Squire a bit, but only because we love him to bits. He has sired several litters of lovely beddies, with similar playful temperaments.

The old gentleman of our pack is Spencer (Stenmor Royal Gadabout, Australian Champion). He is a blue boy from Qld and is a lovely fellow. He is very dignified and graceful, but still loves to chase his squeaky toys across the garden. His favourite place is the bed (human bed, not dog bed that is), and we are happy to indulge him from time to time. He has sired beautiful dogs.

Spencer’s constant companion is his son, Max (Caeuleus Mighty Maximus, Australian Champion). Max is a liver-and-tan dog and is truly beautiful,- he has done very well in the show ring, with many group wins. Although named after a fierce gladiator, Max is actually a bit of a sook, and likes nothing better than a cuddle (we call them Maxie cuddles). Max adores his dad, Spencer, and runs around after him all day, wanting to play. They are great mates. He also likes to play with baby Rohan (see photo below).

Max’s sister, Cassie (Caeruleus Cassiopia Sky, Australian Champion), was the first blue-and-tan born in Australia. She is very like her dad, Spencer, with a similar predilection for sleeping on our beds. Cassie is a sweetheart and is the Houdini of the pack, escaping through the smallest of gaps to resume her place at your side. We have hidden in bushes with binoculars (commando style) to see how she does it! She has great tenacity and agility.

Arwan (Caeruleus Lady Arwan, Australian Champion) is a liver bitch out of Squire and Georgia. She has just turned 2 years of age, but remains our baby. She is aptly named, as she is very much a lady, - fastidious, refined and even at times a little haughty! She is very loving and affectionate, and requests pats frequently. She has a lovely singing voice, especially evident when she is wrestling with her little sister.

Rohan (Caeruleus Mistress Rohan) is the baby of our pack. She is just nine months old, mischievous and full of the joys of life. Every thing in the house and garden has to be “Rohan-proofed”, lest it be consumed! She is just like her dad, Squire – playful, active and very happy. She is always ready to leap into your arms, whether you are expecting it or not. She likes to play with her ball, and also likes to chew on her sisters’ ears. She has just started her show career and has had some excellent comments from local and overseas judges.
