All our puppies are raised in a loving, family environment and are socialised with other dogs, human adults and with children of various ages.  They spend the first four weeks of their lives inside our family home under constant supervision and then at least 5 weeks of their lives with me being introduced to the outside world on a farm with plenty of room to play, grow and experience new things with their siblings and others.  We only ever selectively breed with the "Standard's" requirements held as the foremost importance and not ever for profit. Any registered breeder/exhibitor will tell you that there is never a great deal of money to be made out of breeding.  Our babies are only available to people whom we consider will provide appropriate homes, so if you are asked questions upon your enquiry for a Basset Hound puppy or dog, please do not feel offended as we are doing it for the benefit of both yourself and the dog.

We take our breeding programme very seriously and become very attached to each and every baby that we produce, so it is a personal experience for us and one that we do with pride.  Any animal that you introduce into your household will become a part of your family for a long period of time - a Basset Hound in your home will provide you with love, loyalty, endless companionship, laughter and joy.

We may have puppies available from time to time and welcome any enquiries but we only breed when we want another youngster for the show ring, so you will understand that we are aiming to keep something from each litter for ourselves as most show exhibitors/breeders do.

Ella and "Bubbles" - April, 2009

Breeding is an expensive, exhaustive and risky exercise and only those who have taken this on will fully understand.  There are many things that can go wrong throughout the whole process of producing a litter of puppies including the possibility of losing your bitch and or the puppies during the delivery or before - as well as the possibility of any further complications occuring after the delivery.  It is also a very emotional experience.  Therefore, we do not promise specific puppies from expected litters to potentional purchasers, however, we are happy to take your details and contact you upon the delivery of any litters or to refer you on to someone whom we know may have a litter already on the ground.

Puppies are only ever available AFTER they are 8 weeks of age and will come to you with a "Puppy Kit" which includes care and feeding instructions, a "Contract of Purchase" which you will have to sign and usually a disk that we burn of photographs of the puppies journey in life to date for you to take home with your new baby.  We also provide at least two days worth of food for you to take home with your new family member to ensure that no upset tummies occur due to changes in diet for the first few days in his new home.  Reading of the "Puppy Kit" is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY AND FORMS PART OF THE CONDITIONS OF PURCHASE IN THE CONTRACT OF PURCHASE.   We also provide six weeks insurance through Pet Plan Insurance.

Inspection of our Bassets and facilities is not only welcome, but encouraged, with a prior appointment time arranged between yourself and us.  You can view both our male and female Bassets and witness their temperaments, types and movement first hand but we will also expect you to have a cuppa with us!  Click on the "Contact Us" icon for details on how to get in touch with us or phone us for a chat to organise a visit here.

You will see for yourself whilst looking through our web pages that our Bassets are very well socialised and certainly bred with type and temperament in mind.  From day one, they are exposed to the daily lives of our family members including young children with my children being encouraged to be involved in the raising of the litters.  They are well handled and will even have had their toe nails clipped several times before you take one home.  They are all vaccinated and wormed to their appropriate ages, microchipped, vet checked at about 8 weeks of age and Registered with the Royal NSW Canine Council.

Please remember that if you are after a Pure Bred dog of any breed, only ever purchase from a REGISTERED Breeder.  This way, you are discouraging any "back yard" breeders who have not taken the time nor invested the money into becoming a Registered Breeder/Exhibitor and who are unlikely to have taken the well being of the animal into consideration or researched the background of each parent.  Most "back yard" breeders are in it for the sole purpose of the money that they think they can raise by breeding ad lib.  Often breeding with bitches to the detriment of that dog's health and are likely to allow the bitch to whelp outside or in their garage and not under supervision.  A Registered Breeder has agreed to abide by the "Standard" for each breed of dog that they have and also abide by the "Code of Ethics" that have been put into place by their relevant Canine Councils.

Pictured above:  'Maddie' with her new borns 15th

Also, the "backyard breeder" is unlikely to guarantee the puppy you are sold, is unlikely to have provided you with the option to support you if need be via phone calls or emails or both, is unlikely to provide you with any type of Insurance or Contract of Purchase that is put into place to protect not only the purchaser and breeder but most importantly, the puppy itself.  So, PLEASE, for the protection of the breed itself, only ever purchase from a Registered and reputable breeder.

Only by purchasing from the right sort of breeder, are you ensured of an ongoing support system throughout not only the first few days of bringing home your new addition, but a life time of it.  Any reputable breeder will have many stories to share with you of the ongoing relationship that can develop between the new families and their Basset's breeder!  One gentleman who hasn't even purchased from me but has ongoing contact  has given me the most prescious phrase:  "The Queen may have Corgi's but I am sure God has Bassets"!!!  This is the type of impact owning a Basset can have on one's life - so be prepared!

"Delsharla Lord Basil" January 2009.

All the babies at Delsharla are extremely well socialised, especially with other dogs and children.  They are well and truly tested temperament wise, especially with children - of all ages - and are also very well accustomed to household and outside noises.  This includes;  lawn mowers, whipper snippers, washing machines, TV/radio noises, vacuum cleaners and the like.  More than anything, knowing that they cope well with an assortment of environments, puts my mind at ease for when they go to their new homes.  The most important thing to me is that my puppies are placed into only the very best of homes when they leave me.

"Delsharla Preacher Man" and Ella at home, January 2009.

Needless to say, all puppies bred, born and raised here at Delsharla have the hugest amount of love put into their lives and anyone who has purchased from us will know the tears that I shed when they go!  So, if I pester you with questions before you purchase from Delsharla, you will now understand why!

There is absolutely nothing cuter than a Basset puppy.  When you introduce one into your life, you will turn heads where ever you go and deservedly so!  They win hearts everywhere (as adults and puppies)!  They are the most loyal creatures you will come across and will love you above and beyond your expectations.  Once a bond is created, it is very hard to sever and you will be rewarded with years of love and fabulous companionship.

companionship. Two of my beautiful friends.
