Lyngala Lhasa Apsos

Choosing A Puppy ? Part 2

Where do you go? Start with a list of breeders. Speak to them all, never buy from the first person you speak to, even if they have puppies right now. Always investigate a breeder before you settle on that one, contact the dog breed clubs in other states and ask them if they know a particular breeder and can they give you an idea of this breeder and their dogs. Never be fooled by fancy web sites or fancy claims,  remember catch phrase advertising is there to fool you, check it out with the breed club, to see if it is truthful advertising. Always ask to see a breeders 'breeding registration certificate', it has a date on it, this will help you know if you are dealing with a new breeder or a well established breeder. At Lyngala we believe that asking to view this certificate is very important, as some breeders inflate the number of years they have been breeding to impress puppy buyers.   Ask a breeder if you can contact previous puppy buyers,  just to talk to them about their puppies.   Ask to see any show awards that the parents of a litter, or coming litter,  may have won.  Ask each breeder some well selected questions, i.e.:- Why do you breed dogs?, How long have you been breeding these dogs ? How long have you owned these dogs ? How often do you breed ? How often do you allow your girls to have puppies ?  Do you show your dogs ? How many dogs do you keep ? How many litters do you allow your girls to have in a  lifetime ? How long have you lived in this  area ? All these questions are very important.

Go to Breed Information  for the Lyngala answers to these questions.

Most members of the general public think that to buy a puppy from a breeder that shows dogs, means that they will have to show their new puppy, NO, all good reputable show dog breeders have pet puppies available, they are excellently bred pet puppies, usually from high quality selected dogs that a lot of money has been invested into.  Most dedicated breeders test their breeding dogs so that they know they will get only top quality healthy puppies, that are also true to the breed standard. They will also have parents, grandparents, cousins, siblings etc. for you to view, so you can get an idea on size, color and temperament.
When you buy a puppy from a breeder that also shows their dogs, you are guaranteed to get a puppy that is in all ways a correct Lhasa Apso, when we show our dogs, we (the breeder), are having our dogs judged by our peers and our well educated judges, they keep us on the right track, as far as our breeding is concerned. The breeder of your puppy will become part of your extended family, so choose carefully,  during the life of your puppy you will need to contact your puppies breeder to discuss all manner of things, communication is important, so you need to feel secure, safe and comfortable in knowing that your puppies breeder will be there for you.  Never rush into buying a puppy, a puppy is for life not just Christmas.

Remember me ? I have needed operations to correct my spinal defects, my mum knew nothing of this when she purchased me.

Now she knows, it has cost her over $8,000 for my health.

What if you can't get that puppy you want, and when you want it ? Sorry,  puppies are not made on an assembly line, very often the sex and color of a puppy is way down the list of priorities to a dedicated breeder. As you are seeking a life long four legged family companion, we at Lyngala feel that the health and temperament of your puppy is paramount,  above sex and color.  Because puppies are never available at the exact moment most people want to buy them, the only way to ensure that you will finally get your dream dog is to follow the research and checking process, when you find a breeder that you like (remember they are going to raise your new child), stick with that breeder and wait for your new puppy to arrive, be involved with the whole process.  Ask to visit your new puppies litter as soon as you can, get to know them, and get to know your breeder well with visits prior to ordering a puppy.

Do not pay any deposit/booking fee for a puppy before it is born. Do not pay any deposit/booking fee/holding fee for a puppy until you see the puppy or choose your puppy. Do not be bullied by a breeder into paying money just to hold a puppy order, many people have lost money paid to unscrupulous breeders as booking/holding fees. At Lyngala we do not take money for booking fees or deposits, you pay us when you have taken weeks to choose your perfect puppy (via puppy play dates) and you are 110% happy.

We at Lyngala have past puppy buyers willing to correspond with prospective new puppy buyers, to help them in their search for that perfect four legged family member.  We have personal trainers ready to help you every step of the way with your puppy. We are professional groomers that can advise detailed grooming needs and offer regular grooming sessions.  We are educated in the nutritional needs of your dog and offer the correct dietary needs for every step of your puppies life. We feel that our puppy packs, offered to all our puppy buyers, are very extensive and unique, with plenty of food and DVD's to help you with every step as your puppy grows.

Please feel free to contact us privately to learn of our puppy policy and our personal history with these wonderful dogs. We do not sell our puppies for breeding, this enables us to protect our precious dogs from being exploited by inexperienced new breeders or puppy farmers / backyard breeders.    We, at Lyngala, believe that a breeder that does not breed dogs to keep for showing as well as pets is only breeding to make money, often not considering the health and welfare of their dogs.   We wish you all the best in your search for that perfect new four legged family member.
