Hi, my name is Chris and my husband is Peter Wood. We have been breeding dogs for over 30 years under the Schaferden prefix. First of all it was German Shepherd Dogs but when I first laid eyes on a Maremma, 14 years ago, I fell in love with the breed and since then we have been showing and breeding the Maremma Sheepdog. When we started in the breed many of the dogs we saw had poor temperaments. We were lucky enough to obtain Jill who has a lovely temperament and has passed it on to her offpring. Our dogs have taught us a lot but there is always something new to learn.

Jill has now passed away but she lives on in her progeny. At present we have 3 German Shepherds and 6 Maremmas. From the photo it may look like they are in kennels all day but they do spend a lot of time out. We have to let them out in groups as they are not all friends with each other.

We only breed once a year, and we usually have puppies March - July. There is always a waiting list so its best to put your name down on the list. We try to match puppies with the prospective owner so we need to know a little about where the dog is going. All the puppies from the last litter have now been sold.
