Schipperkes
The Schipperke prounced (Skipper-key) originated in Belgium and was used to guard canal barges hence the name of the dog which in Flemish means little captain. The Schipperke is a small thickset dog with or without a tail with a thick medium short double coat and a standout ruff around the neck.
The Schipperkes head is fox like with a pointed muzzle. The Schipperkes are a low maintance dog shedding once or twice a year and they only require occasional brushing. Schipperkes are loyal with the family and good with children but wary of strangers. Schipperkes are a brilliant guard dog ranging in color from black to cream to gold. The average height and weight of Schipperkes range from 28cm to33cm and from between 5.4kg to 7.3kg.
