The Red Devils Agility Team

Vicki's Story

My involvement with Irish Terriers began in 1999, when I was looking for a new puppy.  Having spent hours surfing the net trying to find something a bit different, I came across the Irish Terrier who seemed to fit the bill.  I liked the long face, the wiry coat and they were just the right size. I contacted Neridah from Anluan kennels and along came Murphy ‘Anluan Magic Moments'.  He settled down well as companion to my elderly cattle dog Penny.

I had horses at this time so was still very involved with them as well. When Murphy was 12 months old, I took him down to the local dog club to do some basic training.  They were also doing this thing called agility and we were asked if we wanted to join in. It looked like fun, so my life with agility began.

Murphy began competing in a fun team event consisting of a team of two experienced dogs and two beginner dogs and the team came second.

Murphy has since gone on to gain many agility titles and an obedience title. He was a member of the winning jumping team at the Perth Royal Show in 2004 (with three border collies). His most significant prize was the State Excellent Jumping Dog title which he won in 2006.

Having become hooked on agility, I sold my horse in 2003 and concentrated on the dogs. In 2003 along came another dog from Neridah,  Kelsey 'Anluan Flying High' (named with great expectations). Kelsey has been a challenge, showing great talent but only when she chooses!

At the beginning of 2005, Neridah rang me with another challenge - a six month old boy she had who she was going to keep as a stud dog but his tail had gone curly.  Kushti ‘Anluan Kushti Bok’ (meaning good luck in Romany) had been to puppy preschool and showed great promise as he also liked jumping up on all the outdoor furniture.  Kushti has proven to be a delightful dog to work with, showing enormous talent and speed (usually lacking in the Irish Terrier).   He is extremely enthusiastic and does everything with a big smile on this face.

As you can tell we are all now hooked on Irish Terriers and agility. The agility world is starting to sit up and take notice of our redheaded partners particularly when they occasionally give the border collies a run for their money!
