WARREE STAFFORDS

About Us

Above is a photo of myself and a very young Katie Bootle with three young Warree pups. The middle pup Warree Miss Chievious broke her shoulder and was put to sleep just short of her 18th birthday. Her mum a classic brindle bitch with which whom I won many a bet with, those who were around then know exactly what I mean. The first time I noticed a stafford was in the 60s when walking past a kids house that was in my class at school and noticed these very solid brindle dogs and thinking boy they are great looking dogs not knowing that they were called Staffordshire bull terriers. It was so ironic that when I answered an add to buy my first pedigree bitch it was my old class mate from school who had the litter. My first male was a whirlwind powerhouse Stafford by the name of Drogheda Snow Storm and this dog did everything in his power to live up to his name. This dog was the Tradesman and I was his apprentice for 12 years. I believe he taught me the many facets of the Stafforshire Bull Terrier.

To this day I still believe that a Staffordshire Bull Terrier should be muscular, active and agile with a good temperament.

Prior to me getting my first papered dog I had several Bull Terrier and Bull Terrier crosses, with one of my Uncle's saying to me one day "Have you seen the other type of Bull Terrier, a smaller, squarer type of dog?" I said "I don't know what you're talking about"...and he proceeded to tell me the story of his first encounter with a Staffordshire.
It was in the 50's and he, followed by his trusty hunting dogs, had pulled into a bush pub for a quick ale after a pig hunting trip out the back of Kilcoy. When suddenly Jack the treecutter said, "Get those dogs out of here if you don't want to see them hurt! My dog's out the back and he won't like them in here." My Uncle replied, "These are pretty hard dogs Jack" ..and Jack replied "Well you have been warned!!" So with this my Uncle immediately put his dogs in the back of the truck and asked to have a look at his dog.

Next thing you know in strides this 3 legged brindle dog. My Uncle replied "You have to be kiddin' Jack. That dog has only 3 legs!!" With this Jack said, "This is a Staffordshire Bull Terier, a fighting dog from England."
My Uncle found out that Jack was not kidding.

So that's how I was introduced to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

More than 25 years later I still like to see them fit and try to breed them this way, holding on to their true type first of all.
