Kosta is a pure staffordshire bull terrier standing at 19 3/4'' and 55lbs. In my opinion it is another step in the right direction to bring back the bulldog/terrier with the ability to function as the original dog was meant to. As we can no longer test them for gameness we must concentrate our efforts on their physcial attributes and their temperament to fit into our modern day society. Kostas base is just a little longer than he is high to give him maximum leverage for his size with long flat muscles that should be attached to the right length of bone for the dogs height. Short bones with bulging muscles can rarely last the distance. The shorter heavier dogs having alot harder go of it. The taller dog usually having the required muscle attached to each end of a longer bone giving it a great advantage over its shorter boned counterpart as far as leverage is concerned. So the taller dog has less oxygen burning muscle but still is stronger and can endure greater periods of work due to the extra leverage through its longer bones that work like a series of lever bars in the dogs anatomy. As far as the bull and terrier is concerned I believe 80% of the dogs power is produced from its rear quarters. If the back end of the dog has the right length of bones the tibia and femur will meet at the correct working angle and give the dog a correct turn in stifle which is obvious in Kostas rear leg joint. I also believe if this length of bone is correct the stifle joint will be stationed well within the top half of the dogs height when the dog is standing four square which also should allow the dog to have the right length of hock which will increase the dogs manouvrability. The taller dog also has the distinct advantage of working down once more the shorter dog is at another disadvantage. It is much harder to work up than it is to work down. If you don't believe me try nailing UP ceiling sheets compared to nailing DOWN floor boards. The above is my own observation and opinion.
