Wurroit Bedlingtons

About Us

Us.

Bob & Erica Whitehead live in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia with six Bedlingtons, a cat rescued by our daughter Bronwen, and numerous fish. Bronwen and her daughter Eilwen, and our son Matthew are currently living in Adelaide, South Australia.

Our Bedlingtons.

Our first Bedlington, Beasley (aka Stenmor Blue Belgarian, Shelagh O’Brien, QLD) arrived as a consequence of the Bronnie and Matt's demands for a dog. As Bron & Matt have asthma and other allergies we sought a dog with low allergy problems and a bark as opposed to a yap. Bedlingtons fit the bill very well, Beasley was willing to defend members of the family as a 10 week old pup just three days after his arrival. As a consequence of our early experiences with Beasley (from day one), we decided that we would like to become further involved with the breed through showing and breeding. Sadly, Beasly passed away on the 15th of April 2005. He was suffering from cancer and liver failure.

Bonnie (Aust Ch Piperdene Fire N Ice, Robyn Bates, N.S.W.) joined us in 1999 and our first litter was born in 2000. A second litter was born in 2001 and her final litter in February 2003.

Hart (Aust. Ch. Wurroit Wayward Warrior), is a blue dog is from Bonnie’s first litter. He has been BOB at many local shows and has had a number of RUBIG and class in group awards. Though he has achieved his conformation title and is a good example of the breed he will not be used for breeding as he is a carrier for the genetic disease Copper Toxicosis.

Sorcha (Caeruleus Octavia Lucila, Cathy Robinson, N.S.W.) is a liver and tan bitch who joined us in 2002. Sorcha whelped her first litter in April 2005 producing six pups. There were three liver and tan dogs, one liver dog, one blue and tan bitch and one blue bitch in this litter. Two of the pups from this litter won Baby Puppy in Group 2 (the Terrier Group), in their debut shows. Sorcha was awarded Best in Group 2 when she returned to the ring. Sorcha's second litter arrived in April 2006 and consists of seven pups. This litter includes a liver dog, a liver & tan dog, a blue & tan dog, a liver & tan bitch and three blue & tan bitches.

Lady Di (Aust Ch Wurroit Diamond Ice) was born in February 2003 and entered her first show in August 2003 where she went reserve bitch over her mother. Di has continued to perform well in the ring ever since receiving many favourable comments from judges. Di has acheived a BIG, RUBIG, Aust Bred in Show and Pup in Show awards along with her numerous class in group awards.

Lola (Wurroit Wicked Wench) is a blue & tan bitch puppy born on 9th April 2006. She entered the show ring on 9th July 2006 and performed nicely. She enjoys being in the ring and will have another go on the 14th and 15th of July.

We have imported Isotops Viking, a sandy dog from Malin Eriksson in Sweden. He arrived in Australia in early April 2008 and has performed very well in the ring receiving a number of favourable comments and a Best In Group Win in July. He has produced two nice litters to Sorcha and Di.

Breeding.

We had a litter of pups was born on the 14th April 2005 with Wurroit Mary Alice being the last to leave home. She joined her new family in Sweden just in time for Christmas 2005. The Sire of the litter is Wurroit Lionheart, blue, 1:1 for C.T. (Aust Ch Stenmor Bold as Brass x Piperdene Fire N Ice) and the dam Caruleus Octavia Lucila, liver & tan, 1:1 for C.T. (Aust Ch Stenmor Royal Gadabout x Aust Ch Dalip British Maid, Imp U.K.) The litter consists of three liver and tan dogs, one liver dog, one blue and tan bitch and one blue bitch.

Aust Ch Wurroit Hornblower, a liver and tan dog puppy from this litter was awarded Baby Puppy in Group in his first show and has received a number of favourable comments from various judges. He is currently being shown by Jacqui Baumgarten of Affengiel Kennels in NSW where he is achieving some success.

The blue and tan bitch puppy from the above litter, Wurroit Mary Alice, was awarded Baby Puppy in Group 2 in her first two shows, and was later awarded Puppy in Show as a six and a half month old pup. Mary was also Best of Breed at two Adelaide shows receiving favourable comments from a number of judges. Mary has gone to Sweden and is living with Malin Eriksson of Isotops Kennels who are providing a sandy dog pup as an exchange. Mary was awarded Puppy in Show in her international debut in Orebro in Sweden against 380 other puppies.

A litter that arrived on the 9th April 2006 is a repeat mating of our 2005 litter. Sorcha produced one more pup than in 2005, a litter of seven, with six of the seven pups being bi-colours, that is liver or blue with tan markings.

On the 12 January 2007 Aust Ch Wurroit Diamond Ice produced her first litter of pups. Sadly we lost the blue boy pup from this litter. The remaining four pups all joined their new homes at the end of March 2007.

Clubs.

We are members of the North Australian Canine Association, Master Dog Breeders Academy, The Bedlington Terrier Social Club of Queensland and The Alice Springs Kennel Club. We have been showing Bedlingtons since 2000. We would like to see many more representatives of this wonderful breed in the Territory (and Australia wide) and we are happy to assist prospective owners to acquire and enjoy this wonderful breed.
