YIRIWYRE FOX TERRIERS - WIREHAIRED

About Us

We have been breeding Wire-haired Fox Terriers since 1976, having been introduced to the breed by the late Alan Croxton, the then owner of the Yiriwyre Prefix along with his wife Laurel. Yiriwyre was derived from one of the aboriginal dialects, loosely meaning "Earthdog". Alan, at the time, was showing an exciting male "Ch. Yiriwyre Japara", winning BIS both here and interstate. He had also bred a half brother, Yiriwyre Wirana, sired by UK import Easternvale Executive. Showing an interest for a show dog he offered us this youngster and before long we were right into the thick of things. Our first group from Junior Class and subsequent interstate trip to win the Speciality show cemented our interest in this hobby.
Before long we were encouraged to take on a couple of bitches and from these were bred our own foundation bitches, both of whom excelled in the ring as well as in the nursery. On the passing of Alan, Laurel kindly allowed us to take over the Yiriwyre prefix and also have the fun of showing Japara. Winning BIS at The Terrier Clubs 50th Anniversary show under Canadian Specialists was one of our highlights.
From here we ventured interstate for stud dogs, O'Loughlins Ch.Extreal Royal Flush Imp UK, Parker/Goodwins Ch.Dalwyre Debonaire and later Pieterse"s exciting dog Am/Aust Ch.Santeric Res Ipsa Loquitor (Imp USA) added to our strong bitch line. Also the purchase of Statuesque Bordeaux(Noddy to his friends), soon titled and winning multiple BIS's for us, provided us with wonderful progeny and he was sadly missed when he passed on at the age of 16 yrs 2 months.
In the last five years we have ventured into importing our own wires. Luckily, on a trip to USA, I made friends with Sarah Frost, who works on the TV show "The Simpsons". We made a pact that she would breed a male pup for us. She was able to import from UK a lovely bitch Kentee Jezzabelle at Rayfos (Lily) who had been top wire puppy there. Sarah then campaigned her successfully, winning Best of Winners at the prestigious Montgomery Show under UK Wire Specialist Mrs. B. Jull. Lily also notched up multiple Best-In-Group wins. In the end we decided to mate Lily to one of the top sires in USA, Am.Ch.Cunningfox Santeric Patriot and bring her out to Australia in whelp.
The result of that union was our now Grand Champion Hiwyre Katch Astar (IID USA), Dennis to his friends. The Hiwyre prefix was born from Sarah's prefix and ours.
In the showring Lily proved to be a dream, loving every moment of it and was admired by many for her snowy white harsh coat and animation. Her supreme win for us was winning The Battle of Champions in 1999, an event by invite of BIS & R/up BIS winners, Only one other terrier has won at this showas at 2007
About the same time we were able to obtain a young puppy in UK from Chris & Sue Wiggins, Cradleydale Solitary Man (Jimi)He was shown sparingly in UK with multiple puppy in group awards. His sire was the well-travelled wire Eng.Am.Can.Nor.Swd.Dan & Int.Champion Burrendale Escort of Purston. We soon titled him, stunning ears and headpiece was his fortune and his grandchildren seem to be the cream of his output.
Dennis has provided us with some exciting youngsters. A Jimi daughter mated to Dennis provided a cheeky young lady, Ch. Yiriwyre Heartstrings who got her first 100 points by 9 months.
The union of our bitch Ch.Yiriwyre Simply the Best, (from our stunning bitch, Ch.Yiriwyre Kates Ascandel) to Dennis has given us Ch. Yiriwyre Whistleblower, already a multiple BIG and In show awards at champ.level. We are looking forward to 2004 with this youngster.
Dennis at present has sired five Aust.Champs and one Singapore champ, hopefully more to come.
Now our latest import, Alkinra Kiss & Run(Smacko), is growing up in the kennels and hopefully will be out next year also. He is from the kennels of Rachel Pearce of "Alkinra Kennels", coincidentally also an aboriginal name as Rachel was born in Australia and returned to UK as a youngster. His sire, Eng.Ch.Fairwyre Commander at Grambrae has won BOB at crufts three years in a row and BIG at Crufts in 2002.
Toby ends 2004 as Top Wire in Aust.,Top Terrier in Sth Aust,#4 Top Allbreeds in Sth Aust. and #6 Terrier Aust.wide, thank you to The Judges who afforded him this honour and to the admirers that cheered him on
We also thank our friends who have chosen one of our wires and lovingly shown them to their title. Our newest exhibitor is Fiona Tomney, who has to travel for 8 hours from Streaky Bay to show young Y.Scarlet Ohara, this weekend she was rewarded for her dedication with 4 bitch challenges and 3 Minor Puppy in Group awards for little Scarlet, thank you Fiona, this is what inspires us to continue. 2007 has seen Fiona been rewarded for her dedication over the Easter Circuit taking a R/up in Group and finishing off her Title. Thankyou Fiona for your support of our kennels and fitting in your campaign of Scarlet despite your busy schedule of a farm, two boys, part time teaching and travel, dont know how you fit it all in.

2006 ended up a quiet year here at the kennels, with very limited outings due to ill health.  However all the wires enjoyed time out, a few changes were made and hopefully 2007 will bring out some of the promising youngsters.

STOP PRESS 2007. May sees the arrival of Ryandos Boy George (Imp NZ) A big thanks to Joc & Bob Styles for allowing "George" to stay at Yiriwyre Kennels for 12 months no doubt his impeccable UK lines will compliment our own UK lines.

Please to welcome Sandra & Mike Potts from NSW to join us in the ring in South Australia. They loved Adelaide so much on their visits, they have now decided to make it their home.   Wanda Sullivan has returned from USA and has now joined the team.
