Celebrating over 50 years in Cocker Spaniels

Excerpts taken from CC Jenkins “Now and Then”

In 1969 Margaret purchased her first cocker from Alex Murnane of Wattleview; – Wattleview Willa out of Ch Mighty Rare of Ware (UK) & mated Bonnie to Larkana dogs - this started a life long friendship with the Murnane family, as “Pop” was Louise’s godfather, this title passed onto Joy when Pop passed away.

In 1972 Margaret purchased Ch Koubla Katie which did some good winning for her & decided to continue with solid breeding only.

Katie became our foundation bitch and was mated to Hartnett’s Ch Lochranza Goldenfields Poacher (UK) produced Ch Britebay Blackjack (Challenge winner at Adelaide Royal for three consecutive years). Blackjack produced Ch Britebay Black Hope who did extremely well wherever shown, especially under UK specialists.

Margaret then decided to outcross to Ch Sorbrook Candle Glint (UK), using another Blackjack daughter and produced Britebay Battlestar, (Stubbie) the first male to be kept at Britebay.  He went onto produce Best In Show winners: Ch Britebay Bright Blend & Ch Bellesam Black Douglas.

In 1989 Margaret's daughter, Louise, joined Britebay. Louise had been helping out in the showing of the dogs as well as becoming  a member of the Cocker Spaniel Club of Victoria at the age of eight. In 1992 we imported from England, Ch Jimmison Jonquille, a beautiful gold boy, who has now left a hole in our hearts. Ross certainly made his own stamp on cockers – we have a lot to attribute to this boy. His sons, Ch Britebay Quilles Choice and Ch Stapleton Safari Moon and daughter Ch Britebay Believable have been consistent winners for Ross, all owned by Britebay.

We thank Denise for sending us two lovely dogs to us.
