Welcome to Chalan Terriers.

On our site you will find information about our Terriers, including the history of the breeds, lots of photo's of our Show Dogs, their Show Titles and Awards and of our foundation stock selected from Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Denmark, Canada and the United Kingdom.

We have also included a very sweet collection of  photos on our Pets Page - photos kindly sent to us by some of our devoted Chalan Terrier pet owners.

History of the Sealyham Terrier

The Sealyham Terrier originated in Wales, as recently as 1850 and was originally bred by Captain John Edwardes of Sealyham Estate in Haverfordwest, to hunt badger and other predators such as stoat.

The Sealyham Terrier has been recognised in the "show ring" since the 1930's and while popular in the 1930's, 40's and 50's with famous owners such as, Princess Margaret, Alfred Hitchcock and a number of Hollywood stars - the Sealyham has now become quite rare worldwide, in fact...

The Sealyham Terrier is now on the United Kingdom's - Canine Rare and Endangered Breeds list.

With limited numbers in Australia and in New Zealand, these small and robust terriers, are intelligent, obedient and adventurous. While they are real characters, faithfulness to his owner or family is one of their many great qualities.

The Sealyham will openly enjoy many outdoor activities yet at the same time, is just as happy to curl up next to a family member in the house at night. As a Sealyham matures he develops his own fun loving personality and enjoys showing off for their family and friends.

As part of our continued devotion and passion for our terrier breeds I have gained my Australian National Kennel Club Judges License to judge the Sealyham Terrier, Cesky Terrier and Norwich Terrier at Championship Show level - able to award challenge certificates (CC Certificates) for these breeds. I am also able to judge the balance of the Terrier Group at Open Show level.

I hope you enjoy your visit, feel free to have a look around and contact me if you would like to know more!

Thank You

Jane Hyman
